Abstract

The reality of Sufism and spiritual journey (suluk) presents a profound and comprehensive concept in the light of Syed Ali Hujwiri's thoughts. According to Syed Hujwiri, Sufism is not merely about outward rituals and customs, but rather a continuous process of inner purification and refinement of the heart. He states, "A true Sufi is one who purifies his heart from worldly impurities and molds it solely in the love of Allah." In his view, the greatest obstacle on the path of suluk is the desires of the ego (nafs) and the love of the world, which he refers to as "the shackles of the feet." Syed Hujwiri's fundamental principle is that to attain divine knowledge (ma'rifah), it is essential for a person to illuminate the dark corners of their soul with the light of faith (nur-e-iman).

Keywords: Sufism (Tasawwuf), Suluk (Spiritual Journey), Nafs (Ego, Desires), Light of Faith, divine knowledge (ma'rifah).
