Abstract

The Islamic concept of mental health, as elucidated in the Quran and Hadith, integrates spiritual, psychological, and emotional well-being. The Quran emphasizes inner peace through remembrance of Allah (dhikr), as stated in Surah Ar-Ra’d (13:28), linking mental tranquility to spiritual connection. Prophetic traditions advocate seeking refuge from anxiety, grief, and stress through specific supplications, promoting resilience and emotional balance. Qualities like patience (sabr), trust in Allah (tawakkul), gratitude (shukr), and positive assumptions (husn al-dhann) foster mental stability. The Quranic principle that Allah does not burden a soul beyond its capacity (Surah Al-Baqarah, 2:286) alleviates psychological pressure. The Prophet’s life exemplifies mental resilience, as seen in events like Taif and the migration to Medina, where he displayed forgiveness and trust in divine support. Islamic teachings align with modern psychological practices like mindfulness and positive psychology, emphasizing community support, supplicatory practices, and spiritual exercises to mitigate mental health issues such as anxiety and depression.
